Healthcare managers learn and share life saving skills

main_photo__ Tashkent 15th December, 2008. The first training session for over 26 senior healthcare managers from across Uzbekistan began today at the Tashkent Postgraduate institute. The training is the first of its kind in the joint Ministry of Health, European and UNICEF project that is improving Uzbekistan’s mother and child health services.

The session runs for 12 days and will introduce new managerial, clinical and wider maternal and child care techniques to regional leaders. A number of participants may later become national trainers, who will spread the new skills and techniques to colleagues across the country.

‘This is a major milestone in our mission to get quality care to mothers and children’ said Rano Sabitova, UNICEF Health specialist. ‘The skills shared here will be spread far and wide – leading to better care for families in the remotest regions and in neighbourhoods’ nearby.’

In addition, a Latvian Pediatric specialist is sharing new techniques in childcare with Uzbek pediatricians and a training session on Child Growth Development Monitoring also recently took place. 6 participants were fully certified in WHO care standards.
